The New Orleans Pelicans suffered another injury loss as guard Jose Alvarado is reportedly set to miss six weeks.
Per multiple reports, Alvarado will be out because of a left hamstring injury he suffered in Monday’s 107-105 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Pelicans announced Tuesday that Alvarado’s injury will be reevaluated in three weeks.

New Orleans is 3-8 and has lost five straight after a 3-3 start as injuries have piled up for the team. Star forward Zion Williamson (left hamstring strain) and new guard Dejounte Murray (left hand fracture) are both out indefinitely. Veteran guard CJ McCollum has a right adductor strain and defensive-minded forward Herb Jones has a right shoulder strain that are keeping them out for multiple weeks.
The Pelicans are missing star power during their swoon, but they have struggled on defense this season. Entering this week, they were allowing 124.8 points per 100 possessions (3.6 more than any other team) during their 1-7 stretch. They now rank last in opponent effective field goal percentage and 29th in defensive rebounding percentage.
This season, Alvarado is averaging career-highs in scoring (10.7 points per game), assists (4.5 per game), steals (1.5 per game) and 3-point shooting (40%) while serving as a starter in seven of his 11 games. Should he be out the six-week timeframe, that would put him back in the lineup around Christmas.
New Orleans opens Emirates NBA Cup play this week and has 11 of its next 20 games at home.
